The 2017 Championship race from Les Sables, France to Horta in the Azores is well underway with Sharp looking strong.

Leaving the final inshore mark in 2nd place, Phil Sharp and sailing partner, Corentin Douguet, held 1st place over night. The double-handed ‘Les Sables-Horta-Les Sables’ is the third race in the 2017 Championship, which is currently led by Sharp, racing Imerys.

This is a first attempt for Sharp who has teamed up with top French sailors Corentin Douguet and Adrien Hardy for each leg of the 2,540 mile race. Strong downwind conditions are forecast west of Cap Finisterre, out into the Atlantic, and both the early and final stages of the race look to be very tricky with light and fickle winds, increasing the importance of strategy and tactics across the fleet. You can track the race via www.philsharpracing.com. The current ETA is Saturday 8th July.

With the infamous Transat Jacques Vabre just months away, the attraction of a challenging Atlantic race has contributed to a fierce 19-strong line up with new, latest generation boats arriving on the scene and teams hungry for victory. Rest assured, it will be an exciting race to follow as the teams push the limits of both man and machine!
